Tour Overview

The Rio Celeste is one of Costa Rica's most extraordinary natural phenomena. Located in Tenorio Volcano National Park, this river gets its famous turquoise color from a chemical reaction between volcanic minerals and water - a sight that must be seen to be believed.

Your adventure begins with a scenic drive from La Fortuna through rural Costa Rica, passing small villages and lush farmland. Upon arrival at Tenorio Volcano National Park, your naturalist guide will lead you on a 3.5-mile hike through primary rainforest.

The trail first takes you to the Teñideros, where the Buena Vista and Sour Creek rivers converge. Here, a fascinating chemical reaction occurs - the mixing of volcanic minerals creates the milky turquoise color that gives Rio Celeste its name. This is the only place in the world where you can witness this phenomenon.

Continuing along the trail, you'll reach the spectacular waterfall. The 30-meter cascade plunges into a pool of intense turquoise water, creating one of the most photographed spots in Costa Rica. The viewing platform offers perfect photo opportunities.

The hike also includes views of the Blue Lagoon, hot springs, and volcanic mud pots. After the hike, enjoy a delicious Costa Rican lunch before returning to La Fortuna. This is truly a bucket-list experience for nature lovers.
